Inspiration for Summer Workwear

How nice to be writing about this. Finally we're experiencing some warmer summer weather - and it feels long overdue. A couple of weeks ago I asked you what you'd like help with and this was a topic which cropped up. So here are some ideas to help you when it comes to dressing comfortably, whilst keeping cool and looking smart. All of the images are clickable so they'll take you straight to the item if you want to see more details.
This dress from Reiss is a great example of something which can be worn for work but also is versatile enough that you can wear it away from the office too. The generous sleeves will allow much needed ventilation this summer. It's 100% cotton so a great breathable material to also help keep you cool. And it has pockets. What's not to love?
This would look fab paired with flat brown sandals, with light trainers or a pair of wedges if you're going for a dressier vibe.
A pair of sunnies and a bag on your shoulder - you're ready to go.
This particular dress also comes in a sage green if that's more your colour.
Another really versatile dress here from Boden. It's a modal and cotton mix so again nice and cool. A bit more coverage of the arms also if that's something you prefer and perfect for summer workwear.
As before, this will look fab with sandals or trainers. With a dress like this I'd probably be more inclined to wear a shoulder bag or have a clutch rather than a crossbody bag.
And don't be afraid to ditch the belt it comes with and add your own for a bit of individuality. It can really bring an outfit together if you pick up another colour you're wearing.
Zara have a great selection of linen blend trousers at the moment. Yes, I know linen creases loads. There's no way around that but if that doesn't bother you too much then definitely consider linen to help you keep cool. I love these khaki ones. There are lots more colours on offer from Zara - including pink and cobalt ones which are fab and a great injection of colour.
There are plenty of linen tops in the shops at the moment too if you like the coordinated look but I'd probably team these trousers with a simple t-shirt and accessorise with a couple of necklaces to elevate the look.
This might not be your typical summer workwear - but it's so pretty I couldn't resist! It's cotton and the wafty material will do a great job of keeping you cool in that warmer weather.
Would look great with a pair of white jeans to really allow that beautiful pattern to jump out.
A bit more of a standard workwear blouse now for you. One option is to contrast this with something like the denim skirt below to help it look less formal.
Another option would be a more feminine skirt like a satin or pleated flowy skirt.
It also lends itself to a more androgynous look with tailored trousers and loafers or brogues. Lots of options!
I like the volume and flow of this denim skirt. Some denim skirts I find can be quite rigid but this has a nice movement to it.
It's a mix of linen and cotton so again this will help with keeping you cool on those summer work days.
I also like the simplicity of the skirt - there's not too much bulk or detail around the middle which can sometimes add to volume and weight (and heat) on warmer days.
Maybe a bit of a wild card here, but how about a jumpsuit?
This would look really chic with a pair of sandals and eye-catching earrings. Still looks smart enough for workwear but definitely stylish too.
I've kept the colour quite neutral and safe with this in case the idea of a jumpsuit is daring enough for you.
Ways to wear this include adding some colour with your own belt or with a t-shirt or polo neck underneath (I'm thinking later on in the year!). It would look great with trainers and a denim jacket to give a more casual feel too.
How stunning is this skirt? Another offering from Boden. The pattern is so pretty and summery. This could absolutely work with a blazer to give it a more workwear feel but equally could be worn simply with a t-shirt and trainers.
The skirt is linen with a cotton lining.
I just think it brings joy and it's important for our work wardrobe to also bring us some happiness, right?
I'll just share some other pieces below which I also think would definitely work for a summer workwear wardrobe.
I really hope you've enjoyed my picks for your summer workwear wardrobe. You might also like to read a previous post I put up on Instagram about those materials to wear when you want to keep cool - here's the link to that. All of these items of clothing need not be confined to your work wardrobe however. I want you to get lots of value from your wardrobe and I think all of these options will serve you well outside of work.
Until next time,
Lou x
